David Irvine, Artistic Director and Conductor
David joined the Sonoma Valley Chorale in 2003 as Associate Conductor and added his excellent voice to the baritone section. In 2007 he assumed the role of Artistic Director and Conductor and began planning exciting and challenging programs for the singers and audiences.
David offers an impressive musical background to the Chorale. He has served as the Director of Worship and Music at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church since 1994 and continues in that position today. He is both Assistant Director and baritone soloist with the Consort Chorale of Marin County and performs as a soloist with the Redwood Empire Sing-along Messiah. He was trained as a choral conductor at Chapman College by William Hall and has worked closely with several other renowned choral conductors as well.
John Pavik, Associate Conductor and Assistant Accompanist
We are absolutely thrilled to welcome John Pavik as our new Associate Conductor and Assistant Accompanist! John holds a bachelor’s degree in Organ Performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Originally from Detroit, Michigan, John has extensive experience in musical leadership. He has served several churches as both organist and choir director. Previously John has served as pianist for Michigan Opera Theater’s Children’s Chorus and as staff accompanist for Madonna University (Livonia, Michigan) and other opera companies in Metro Detroit and the San Francisco bay area. John currently serves as organist at First Presbyterian Church in Santa Rosa.
By day, John works at Catholic Charities (Santa Rosa) as Campaign Coordinator. Prior to that, he has worked as a field organizer for various state and national political campaigns.
RuthE. Wells, Chief Accompanist
RuthE. Wells is an administrative professional by day and a choral musician nights and weekends. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Jamestown (ND) and a Master of Science degree in Arts Administration from Drexel University. She is passionate about choral music, whole-foods nutrition and her adopted cat family. She earned her conducting stripes as director of the San Juan Singers community chorus in Friday Harbor, WA from 2000-2007, music director at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Friday Harbor, occasional music direction for San Juan Community Theatre productions, and a lifetime of accompanying and coaching voice students. RuthE. has been serving as Music Director at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Tiburon since 2008 where she leads the Sanctuary Choir and the Belle Choir (women’s quartet). She has sung with many Bay Area choral groups, including Circa 1600, Sonoma Bach Choir, Sonoma Valley Chorale, Chora Nova, Sanford Dole Ensemble and San Francisco Symphony Chorus.
